Wolf's Favor

Simple stories often lend themselves to many interpretations, as in this latest parable by the Italian author-illustrator. The generosity of Wolf, who consents to help Porcupine with a small task, spreads throughout the forest. A cast of animals all help one another in a wave of goodwill that could suggest, in broader terms, a spirit of cooperation between hostile world powers. Intricately patterned drawings in jewel-like colors, together with a classic overall design, make this a handsome work. Readers familiar with the author's previous books (If You Seek Adventure, If You Take a Paintbrush, etc.) will not be disappointed. (48)
