Marilyn: Intimate Exposures

In this volume, former actress Bernard%E2%80%94daughter of Bruno Bernard, the Hollywood photographer responsible for many of Monroe's iconic images%E2%80%94collects the best of her father's photos and weaves a narrative about the starlet's rise to fame as she transformed from Norma Jean Baker into Marilyn Monroe. Mr. Bernard describes his first encounter with Norma Jean, in which he approached her on the street and gave her his card, as well as his first time shooting her. While most photos are stunning publicity shots, some are candid, including photos of the actress on set and images of her crying shortly after announcing her divorce from Joe DiMaggio. Of the latter, Mr. Bernard writes: "I shot the naked human creature behind the goddess...It was the beginning of the end." In addition to providing forewords by Lindsay Lohan and Jane Russell, Bernard quotes Monroe's press agent, make-up artist, costume designer, and fellow actors, such as Clark Gable. Bernard (Bernard of Hollywood's Ultimate Pin-Up Book) describes Monroe's psychological state aptly, noting: "the conflict of a fabricated myth left Marilyn in a constant state of anxiety and confusion over the identity she had created."
