In this dystopian romantic thriller, set in a post-apocalyptic Europe, Geissinger (Darkness Bound) builds a starkly terrifying world and skillfully invites readers to get lost in it. Lumina Bohn has always known she was different%E2%80%94after all, being able to shoot fire out of your fingertips isn't exactly routine. Under the evil Sebastian Thorne's rule, Lumina is labeled an "Aberrant" and marked for death. After Lumina escapes, her world is rocked even further: she learns that she's part of the superhuman Ikati breed, she has a twin sister, and her birth parents, long thought dead, are still alive, though they've been imprisoned by Thorne for medical research. She also finds the man who has haunted her dreams for years: Magnus. This deeply honorable man is determined to save the imprisoned members of the Ikati, and he'll sacrifice anything%E2%80%94including his own life%E2%80%94to accomplish that. Geissinger's talented worldbuilding draws the reader in quickly, and her well-rounded characters keep them turning the pages.
