Splash

Photographs capture 46 mammals, birds, reptiles, rodents, and other animals swimming or splashing around in rivers, oceans, lakes, and streams. A herd of white Camargue horses sends water spraying as they gallop through a river, a marine iguana grips a rock as waves splash over him; and a grizzly bear—looking somewhat like a giant golden retriever —shakes off water following a swim. Short paragraphs describe each photo (“A clawless otter has popped her head out of water, grabbing hold of a tasty treat”), while additional facts appear in circular bursts. The striking images give readers an up-close look into the behavior of wild animals. Ages 5–8. (May)
