The Further Sayings of Chairman Malcolm

Malcolm Forbes. HarperCollins Publishers, $8.95 (101pp) ISBN 978-0-06-015573-5

The chairman of Forbes magazine writes his own editorial page, which invariably includes quips and epigrams that help to make the bimonthly journal what he genially calls a ""capitalist tool.'' That epithet and this little book's title are a takeoff on communist wisdom, particularly that of Chairman Mao Tse-tung of China who wrote ``the little red book'' of political aphorisms (``surmount every difficulty to win victory''). The Malcolm Forbes sayings in this latest collection are clearly the fruit of deep contemplation: ``Good intentions are no substitute for good results''; ``an indispensable man should be dispensed with . . . promptly''; and again, ``stay slim and die later.'' Right on, Mr. Chairman. (May 28)
