Signs & Seasons: An Astrology Cookbook

Amy Zerner and Monte Farber, with John Okas. HarperOne, $29.99 (264p) ISBN 978-0-06-246134-6

In this debut cookbook, spouses Zerner and Farber (creators of the Enchanted Tarot kit) explain how those born under each astrological sign should eat, cook, and entertain. For instance, they write, Sagittarians love a mix of different dishes, hunger for unusual flavors and foreign affairs, and are adventurous cooks who attempt difficult recipes; those born under Gemini are multitaskers and known for their culinary imagination, relying on their creative skills to recover from forgetfulness, distraction, and mishaps. The book’s recipes are organized by season: the spring yields linguine and ramps al olio (Gemini) and vegetable quiche with new potatoes, arugula, and cheddar (Taurus); the fall has hearty dishes such as apple-stuffed pork tenderloin (Libra) and turkey saltimbocca (Sagittarius). The astrological concept is amusing, if gimmicky, and the selection of dishes is varied yet solidly classic. Photos. (May)
