As for having the time to work out such artistic ideas, ""[a] superior time policy means to fight for the upper hand in time consumption and time use. It appears that one must be ready to face certain loss, both in the sense of self-consuming (Guy Debord) and of self-squandering (Georges Bataille)."" Net_condition: Art and Global Media documents projects by over 100 artists, scholars, theorists (including Siegfried Zielinski, quoted above) and activists who were part of a simultaneous exhibition in Germany, Austria, Spain and Japan. The book was co-edited: Peter Weibel is chairman and CEO of ZKM/Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany (one of the exhibition's forums); independent curator Timothy Druckrey is editor of MIT's Electronic Culture: History, Theory and Practice series, of which this is the second volume. Its radically graphical layout, full of color imagery and text, comes as close as book technology can to the real ""Net condition."" (Feb.)
