The Best of Modern Screen Magazine

Bego, author of several books on music personalities, including Madonna, Barry Manilow and Michael Jackson, is former editor of Modern Screen, the perennially popular movie-fan monthly that first appeared in 1930. He has collected here more than 70 articles, picture features, portrait photographs and front covers from issues of Modern Screen published before 1960. The selections are grouped into categories (""Hollywood Rebels,'' ``On the Set,'' ``Marriage-Go-Round'') with a breezy background preface for each section. This is lightweight reading, but four pieces written by stars Lana Turner, Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland and Joan Crawford will fascinate fans.
