I Say, You Say Feelings!

The I Say, You Say series expands with this lift-the-flap introduction to eight emotions and the facial and verbal actions that often accompany them. Carpenter uses a cast of emotive, vaguely retro cartoon animals to showcase each emotion: “I say grumpy, you say...” reads one scene as an orange cat stands scowling by the side of the road in the rain. That scowl deepens when, after opening a large flap, the cat gets splashed by a passing car (“FROWN!”). Sad tears, an excited “HOORAY!” and a purple ape’s loud “OUCH!” after being stung by a bee follow. Sure to inspire lively “call and answer”–driven readalouds.
