Almost Sisters: The Sisters Scheme

In the first of a trilogy about sixth graders Vanessa and Ricki, the best friends secretly devise a plan to help Vanessa's dad, Andy, and Ricki's mom, Anita, fall in love. If they succeed, Vanessa and Ricki will become sisters. But matchmaking is harder than the girls predict, especially because their parents are so different. In the end, however, it is Andy and Anita who are keeping an unexpected secret, and the two girls are in for a surprise. Although the plot is somewhat contrived, spirited characters and an entertaining storyline will capture the reader's interest. Middle-graders will identify with Vanessa and Ricki's hopes and fears, and delight in their ultimate success. Ages 8-12. (Sept.)
