Eyes

Judith Worthy, Author Doubleday Books for Young Readers $9.95 (32p) ISBN 978-0-385-24965-2
The eyes have it in this jungle of ocular delights. Animal and insect eyes are observed in fantastic close-up illustrations that include a glimpse of the surrounding habitat. A brief verse describes each creature's eyes--offering facts about the way it sees or perhaps its color. The choice of animals and insects varies from bees and fleas to octupi, and includes the false ``eyes'' of both a fish and a moth for purposes of camouflage. The last creatures shown are a girl and boy whose eyes are just right for them. This novel collection of peepers has one minor flaw: the decidedly peculiar eyes of the cover and frontispiece are never identified. Ages 3-5. (May)
