Indoor Cycling

John Krausz. Main Street Books, $11.95 (128pp) ISBN 978-0-385-27931-4

In this follow up to their Bicycle Book, the Krauszes emphasize the multiple benefits to be gained from an activity easily adaptable to a wide range of exercise requirements. The authors' knowledge of how the body works under varied circumstances is commendable, but the guide's core is its succinct instruction on how most everyone can use the indoor cycle to maximize circulatory health. There are line drawings and wise tips on losing weight, converting a 10-speed bicycle to a stationary one, choosing accessories, workout techniques, monitoring heart rate and nutrition. This is a well-organized handbook that should be a required purchase for the 1.4 million people who bought indoor exercise bikes last year. (January)
