America's Moment: Creating Opportunity in the Connected Age

What will it take to put the American Dream%E2%80%94the national ethos that provides opportunities for prosperity achieved through hard work%E2%80%94within reach for everyone? This question is tackled by Rework America, a consortium of more than 50 CEOs, technologists, educators, community leaders, government officials, and management experts from around the country. Collaborating under the auspices of the Merkle Foundation, a tax-exempt charitable organization focused on technology, health care, and national security, they developed a blueprint to "secure our economic future" in a world undergoing the largest economic transformation since the Industrial Revolution. In nine chapters, the authors outline strategies for Americans to create new work opportunities and additional pathways to valued careers. These include ways for leaders to take greater advantage of an increasingly networked world finding ways for for-profit companies to partner with nonprofits and local public institutions to share labor costs, and desegregating "academic" and "career and technical" education.
