Sleek Chic

Tracey Hensler, Tracy Hensler, Karla Dougherty. Perigee Books, $9.95 (175pp) ISBN 978-0-399-51403-6

An editor at Glamour, Hensler aims to show that ""the right kind of clothes, hairstyles, and accessories can make the most of any body, no matter what its assets or imperfections may be.'' She divides chapters by parts of the body, beginning with the forehead and working her way down to the feet. After an introductory paragraph, she offers concise advice on clothing, makeup, accessories, etc., for particular problems. For example, she writes, ``Short necks need the illusion of length. Get it with unfussy lines, simple jewelry, and makeup contouring. Myth: Short necks will seem longer if hair is worn long. No! Flowing tresses will only emphasize your short neck, giving you a squat look.'' The ``Instant Savvy'' and ``Celebrity Watcher'' sidebars are as informative as they are entertaining. (``Lynn Redgrave makes the most of her fuller figure with softly draped wrap dresses, sleek high-necked tunics, and simple, no-frills styling. Super!'') Hensler is full of smart tips. (January)
