Wedding Magic

Sophie Bennett handles behind-the-scenes minutiae at Seasons, her stepmother's event planning business, while her more glamorous stepsisters manage bubbly clients. Their latest client emphatically does not want the usual "lame, fancy, fussy, prissy princessy wedding"%E2%80%94but she does want to get married in the Princess House, on the Newport, R.I., estate of reclusive author Owen Winters. As Sophie sweet-talks Owen into allowing the event, she unknowingly attracts his attention and that of his resident ghost, Ivy Halliday, who is determined to stop the wedding. Owen and Sophie's attempts to placate Ivy lead them to learn more about her past and about themselves, sparking an unexpected love affair. Coughlin's light and humorous touch results in a believable connection between Owen and Sophie while supporting characters add depth to the Scooby-Doo%E2%80%93style plot. (Aug.)
