Robert Asprin's Myth-Fits: Myth Adventure

Jody Lynn Nye. Ace, $16 trade paper (320p) ISBN 978-0-425-25702-9

It helps to have read previous books in the series (13 by Robert Asprin, seven by Asprin and Nye, and two by Nye alone) or to have a cheat-sheet for the characters' home dimensions, races, and abilities (Wikipedia's article is a good guide), but once readers can follow what's going on, they'll find that 23rd Myth fantasy is a fast and sprightly adventure with diverse, lively characters. Skeeve, a young magician, and his companions are hired to find the magical Loving Cup. They locate it in Winslow, a pleasure resort, but before they can acquire it they are thrust into Maire, a nasty alternate dimension, and sentenced to death for the crime of being there. They barely escape execution and continue the hunt, but now there are five cups. Before they can determine which is the real cup, all five disappear. Is this tied up with the drying up of the magical lines of force? Is the beautiful Dorinda friend or enemy? All is resolved in a flurry of activity and a dollop of magic, and Skeeve is ready for his next Myth. This is a charming continuation of a long-beloved series. (June)
