Jensen Murphy is finally free of the death loop that kept her reliving her murder for three decades (as related in Only the Good Die Young). She and her friend and rescuer, Amanda Lee Minter, resolve to use their various supernatural abilities to help others. Their first task is helping Heidi Schmidt, whose friend Nichelle is in danger from Nichelle’s hot-headed boyfriend, Tim. A ghost’s attempt to manipulate Tim’s sleeping mind might be the small impetus needed to undermine his self-control and send him over the edge into murderous violence. Jensen is also a target of spectral stalkers, and being dead may not protect her from their malevolence. Green offers engaging characters and snappy patter, although at times she struggles to keep all of the balls in the air. Murphy’s demon-haunted world can be a terrible place where innocents suffer, but also one where the dead may hope for justice from beyond the grave. (Nov.)
