Finding God’s Life for My Will: His Presence Is the Plan

Mike Donehey. WaterBrook, $15.99 trade paper (240p) ISBN 978-0-5256-5281-6

Donehey, singer of Christian rock band Tenth Avenue North, explains how he has given himself up to God’s plan in his passionate debut. After years of struggling to figure out God’s will for his life, Donehey wondered, “What if God doesn’t want to give us answers because He wants to give us His presence?” As Donehey pondered the question, he allowed God to enter into his life, letting his daily prayers and sense of service guide him. He explains how he now chooses to take the next step (even if he is uncertain) when he experiences fear and indecision. For instance, when pondering proposing to his now-wife, Donehey heard the words of God guiding him: “I’ll never leave you nor forsake you,” which encouraged him to make the right choice. Donehey references the book of Joshua and the Exodus story of God miraculously parting the Red Sea for Moses as instances when faith was required but, in order to move forward, “some of them were going to have to get their feet wet.” With many instances of divine inspiration that come from his dedication to prayer and biblical study, Donehey advises readers to focus only on what one knows and “to stop living for God and experience the sweetness of living because of God.” Donehey’s upbeat tone will appeal to Christians looking for inspiration and motivation when making tough decisions.
