The Magical Fellowship

In this derivative fantasy, space invaders threaten to destroy the Earth in 30,000 B.C. unless the warring factions of dragons, humans, elves and trolls can unite to defeat them. A wizard boy, Lithim, heads up the band of humans and trolls who put aside their differences and set out to join with the frightening dragons and elves. Devotees of questing fantasy should be directed to the many outstanding novels of the genre; McGowen ( The Magician's Apprentice ) does not stand up to Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Lloyd Alexander or Patricia McKillip. Ages 10-14. (Apr.)
