Divine Revelation

Susan G. Shumsky. Fireside Books, $19.95 (288pp) ISBN 978-0-684-80162-9

Readers inclined to practice the willing suspension of disbelief may appreciate this book, with its promises of direct contact with God, growing self-acceptance, increased energy and guidance from an inner guru. They will need to be comfortable with concepts such as astral entities and vibrational liftings, ready to believe the copious testimonials that a life-changing spiritual breakthrough is now possible ""within just a few minutes,"" especially if they sign up for one of the author's frequently touted ""Divine Revelation"" courses. And they will need to be disposed to accept this wisdom from an author with a vaguely described background of spiritual apprenticeship and a degree in from the the Institute of Teaching of Intuitional Metaphysics. Shumsky promises readers that personal revelation will come with complete independence from all organizations or individuals who might want to control them and is available in the name of Hinduism, Christianity, atheism or whatever spiritual tradition excites them.
