Zoom, Car, Zoom: Pee Wee Pops

Suzy McPartland, Author, William Neeper, Illustrator Aladdin Paperbacks $4.95 (0p) ISBN 978-0-689-71750-5
The Pee Wee Pops, board books with squashy, padded, easy-to-clean covers, dress up sunny if unexceptional pictures and rhyming verse by featuring a perky, uncomplicated pop-up on every double-page spread. In Zoom , an anthropomorphized red car leaves its city home to take a trip to the country, driving under a pop-up tunnel entrance, getting stuck behind a pop-up truck which bears the legend Slowpoke Movers, getting a shine at the pop-up car wash. Simple paper engineering gives life to various playthings in Toy-shop , while Sun delivers a peppy wake-up message and Moon puts its heroine to bed: ``But first a story / And something to drink, / And my lamb, and my doll, / And my blanket that's pink.'' Neeper's artwork is a bit zestier than the text, with vivid indigos, violets and aquas adding interest to his streamlined compositions. Ages 2-5. (Mar.)
