White Trash Zombie Unchained

Diana Rowland. DAW, $7.99 mass market (320p) ISBN 978-0-7564-0824-4

Rowland’s inventive sixth White Trash Zombie novel (after 2015’s White Trash Zombie Gone Wild) is just as clever, lively, and gleefully gory as its predecessors. Angel Crawford, a Louisiana zombie, morgue tech, former junkie, and all around tough chick, is starting to feel like herself again after having to be regrown due to a horrific accident that left her in a pile of rotting body parts. Then a local hunter turns into a mindless shambler, and the ailment seems to be spreading at a rapid rate. Angel may have to rely on the one person she hates the most for cure: the brilliant, and evil, Dr. Kristi Charish. Angel hopes that the Tribe (the group that keeps zombies safe) and Dr. Ariston Nikas can help find a solution before the conscious zombies lose their minds. Wrangling a few zombie alligators while stopping a runaway plague sure as heck won’t get her down. Readers who come for the slightly tongue-in-cheek zombie fun will stay for Angel’s generous spirit and sincere relationships with her family and friends, which give the story its big beating heart. Agent: Matt Bialer, Sanford J. Greenburger Associates. (Sept.)
