Papertoy Monsters

Twenty-five "papertoy" artists contribute 50 original monster designs made of colorful cardstock that can be punched out and glued together to form three- dimensional cartoon characters, each with its own quirky backstory. The menagerie includes the tentacled OctoPup, who devours small boats; Yucky Chuck, a serrated-toothed "mutant lunchbox monster"; and Lester Rottenbottom, a teacher-turned-mad-scientist. The designers' enthusiasm for their subjects should inspire readers to invent their own monsters on the blank templates provided. Ages 9–up. (Dec.)
