The World-Famous Book of Counting

Sarah Goodreau. Big Picture, $18.99 (16p) ISBN 978-0-7636-9894-2

In a companion to The Greatest Opposites Book on Earth, one broad-shouldered, mustachioed magician unveils surprises in “The World-Famous Counting Show.” From one to 10, Goodreau introduces onstage magic show props and figures as countable objects. Integrated into her smooth digital graphics are pop-ups, flaps, and tabs. A pull-tab slider conjures “two glamorous assistants” in flowy pants, and a pop-up spread sends “four fluttering doves” rising out of a decorative box. Elsewhere, a flap lifts to reveal “six curious rabbits,” and another shows “ten fabulous flowers.” The finale presents the Counting Show’s “many magical things” in fan-like, die-cut pop-ups. Smooth construction and bold graphics add up to a satisfying counting primer. Ages 3–7. [em](Apr.) [/em]
