Storm Front

Susan May Warren. Revell, $14.99 trade paper (336p) ISBN 978-0-8007-2747-5

This adrenaline-infused and overbusy fifth installment of Warren’s Montana Rescue series (after Troubled Waters) follows Ty Remington and Brette Arnold, former lovers reunited by a tornado. Ty, member of the PEAK rescue team, is off duty when he responds to a call of two missing hikers, a search that takes all night. He is recuperating from that rescue when a tornado crashes through the small town of Duck Lake Minnesota, destroying a school, wrecking a music festival, and leaving a group of students, along with Ty’s mentor and PEAK founder, Chet King, unaccounted for. Brette, a cancer survivor, is now much healthier and working as a storm photographer for Vortex.com, a weather site. Ty and Brette are reunited in the aftermath of the tornado and must resolve their lingering feelings. Meanwhile, country singer Benjamin King, son of the missing Chet, and his fiancé, Kacy Miles, no longer seem to be on the same page about their relationship, a tension only magnified by the disappearance of Benjamin’s father. The novel also touches on other members of PEAK as they work on an open murder case in hopes of clearing a friend’s name. The multiple, unresolved story lines can be overwhelming, particularly for readers new to the series. Although light on faith elements, this exciting penultimate book of the Montana Rescue series will please Warren’s large fan base. (May)
