Tacos for Two
Betsy St. Amant. Revell, $15.99 trade paper (384p) ISBN 978-0-8007-3890-7
In St. Amant’s pleasing latest (after Midnight Angel), a struggling small-town Texas chef must battle to save her business and find love. Rory Perez has her hands full trying to keep her taco truck in business and keeping up with a new online relationship with someone she knows only as StrongerMan99. Law student Jude Worthington’s family runs a prestigious law firm, but Jude would rather cook than study for the bar exam. Specifically, he’s perfecting a taco recipe he learned from the housekeeper who raised him. So Jude’s father offers a challenge: win the local food competition and be released from any career obligations. Jude hires Rory for lessons, and as the two realize they share a mutual attraction, Rory also becomes closer to StrongerMan99—and wrestles with guilt about betraying a man she’s never met. Meanwhile, Jude realizes his father doesn’t plan on playing fair when it comes to the wager, and Rory must rely on her faith when determining which person she wants to be with. The sweet romance works nicely with the buildup to the competition, making for a pleasing surprise finale. St. Amant’s quaint tale will appeal to fans of Karen Kingsbury. (Oct.)
