The King’s Signet Ring: Understanding the Significance of God’s Covenant with You

Chuck D. Pierce and Alemu Beeftu. Chosen, $17.99 trade paper (208p) ISBN 978-0-8007-6255-1

This uneven outing by Pierce, president of Glory of Zion International Ministries, and Beeftu (Rekindle the Altar Fire), president of Gospel of Glory Ministry, considers the biblical symbolism of signet rings. Examining scripture, Pierce and Beeftu suggest that signet rings denote the covenant between God and the faithful, and the authors offer guidance on how to fulfill that covenant. Telling how Pharaoh gave his signet ring to Joseph after Joseph used his divine insight to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams, the authors posit that the story imbues the ring with connotations of authority and a close relationship with God. Pierce and Beeftu contend that other appearances of signet rings in Ephesians, Esther, and Isaiah represent faith, authenticity, and beauty. To earn the “divine authority” symbolized in the signet ring, the authors urge readers to follow Jesus’s example by submitting oneself to and being willing to make sacrifices for God. The biblical analysis proffers some thoughtful perspectives on living out God’s will, but they’re often obscured by muddled discussions of signet ring symbolism that confusingly instruct readers to “wear the signet ring of heaven” while elsewhere asserting that “you are a signet ring.” The jumbled execution doesn’t do justice to the authors’ ideas.
