Little Man to the Rescue

Max Velthuijs. NorthSouth, $0 (26pp) ISBN 978-0-8050-0036-8

Little Man is as big as a frog. Or as big as Frog, the friend he finds stuck in the neck of a bottle. Frog is trying to pull a note out of the bottle; when Little Man pulls him, both Frog and note pop out. The note says ""Help! Help!'' but has no signature, so Little Man and Frog set off to find out who sent it. A crying Mother Rabbit gives them a clueFather Rabbit is missing. She and the little rabbits join the hunt and save Father, whose leg is injured. He gets so much attention that Frog feels left out. Little Man, to the rescue again, makes Frog happy by reminding him that he now owns a beautiful bottle. This story disarms readers with its wry twists and primitive pictures, in deep crisp colors and bold, smooth shapes. A small, heartwarming tale. (5-8)
