These small-format, 10-page board books spotlight objects familiar to toddlers: clock, kitten, tree, tricycle, doll, toy drum, socks, raincoat. On each page, the item and its name are presented against a brightly hued background. The clarity of the pictures and the sturdiness of the pages make these appropriate for the very youngest readers. Yet compared to the standouts in this genre--including Helen Oxenbury's imaginative, humor-filled concept books--Paterson offers rather routine fare. Ages 1-3. (Mar.)
