White Rabbit Builds a Dream House

Stephen Wyllie, Stephen Wylie. Hambleton Hill Publishing, $12.95 (26pp) ISBN 978-0-8249-8363-5

Tired of being cooped up in a burrow with assorted relations, the industrious Mr. Rabbit builds his family a house in the country, ``just big enough for three rabbits.'' At his wife's suggestion, the thoughtful rabbit adds a room for a possible visit from Mr. Toad. Baby Rabbit's query about lodgings for Grandfather prompts another building spree, and soon the rabbits' retreat has become a veritable Hare Holiday Inn, cozily tenanted with multitudes of friends and family members. Aspiring architects can join in the construction by means of a sheet of pop-out room additions which are inserted into color-coordinated slots on appropriate pages. While little fingers will most likely require adult assistance, this unusual activity book should handily capture young readers' imaginations and would make an ideal family project. Wyllie's droll, understated text is splendidly paired with Axworthy's engaging bunny family and cheerily rococo dwelling. Ages 3-5. (Mar.)
