Digitally rendered cartoon animals change into other animals via wheels, pull-tabs, and pop-ups. Turning a wheel rotates a cow’s head until it resembles an owl. A butterscotch-colored frog on a lily-pad flips up to become a mouse peering over tall grass (“Frog finds a pond/ to cool his feet./ What a great place/ to beat the heat./ Moose walks down/ to take a sip./ Pull the tab/ to see them flip!”). And a die-cut monkey’s head flips over to turn into a duck on the following spread. It’s a simple concept, well-executed, and readers should be tickled by the trompe-l’oeil effect. Ages 3–up. (Aug.)
