The Fertility Solution: A Revolutionary Approach to Reversing Infertility

A. Toth. Atlantic Monthly Press, $19.95 (174pp) ISBN 978-0-87113-428-8

For the couple having difficulties in conceiving a child, this book offers what may be an alternative approach. According to Toth, a New York obstetrician and fertility expert who is an associate professor at Cornell Medical College, many couples experience infertility because the man, the woman or both has untreated, overlooked or asymptomatic sexually transmitted disease. Toth describes how extensive antibiotic therapy works for the patients he treats, giving short shrift to other methods that sometimes are equally effective. Although infection may indeed play a crucial role in infertility problems, skeptical readers may wonder about the findings of research conducted beyond Toth's office. Regrettably, he cites fairly few and does not provide the substantiation--much less a recommended reading list--critical for lay readers. Included is a brief but fine glossary of medical terms and a list of organizations helpful to couples trying to conceive a child. (Feb.)
