The more than 200 recipes in this book are not so much part of a plan to lose weight as a way to keep unwanted pounds off. (As Deeming notes, anyone with more than 25 pound to lose should enroll in a supervised diet plan.) She offers a daily plan of either 1000, 1200 or 1500 calories, using recipes that should appeal to many: orange breakfast crepes, hearthside beef stew, seafood-stuffed artichokes, curried chicken and papaya salad, and Oriental noodles with meatballs. An exchange list supplies dietary information about restaurant fast foods. Deeming also discusses vitamins, mineral supplements, sugar substitutes and diet aids from a medical point of view, which is helpful in this nebulous area. (April)
