Managing Your Own Money: A Financial Guide for the Average Wage Earner

James F. Tucker. Dembner Books, $17.95 (245pp) ISBN 978-0-942637-00-7

This money manual, by a former Federal Reserve vice-president, professor and college president, assumes that the average advice-seeker can digest readily information the author has learned from years of experience. He knows, and tells, a lot, not only about advantageous personal money management, but also about the U.S. financial structure and its sophisticated and infinitely varied investment possibilities. Some average wage earners are sure to be discouraged by the sheer mass of material presented, or confused by the multiple financial choices even Wall Street managers have trouble with. Tucker's agenda in praise of planning hits home, however, when he points out that $60 a year earned on investment can pay a student's fare at a career-vital conference. Readers who go the distance and absorb the knowledge contained here are unlikely to remain mere wage earners forever. (May)
