Power of the Scepter

Terry L. Krohn. Axiom House, $25.95 (270pp) ISBN 978-0-9760237-2-2

Some interesting ideas about the current world monetary system get lost in Krohn's lackluster second entry in his Dreams of Tomorrow series (after 2004's Eye of the Pyramid). Dr. Paul Malone, a physicist, has discovered a magical scepter with powers that will allow him to battle the forces of evil. As Malone struggles to master this tool, he must simultaneously arrange for the rescue of the woman he loves, waitress and aspiring med student Sally Whitaker, who, of course, has been taken hostage by the bad guys. The outcome will surprise no one, and the melding of the supernatural with political conspiracy is far less convincing than in other recent thrillers in the Da Vinci Code vein.
