The Elves' First Christmas

Who knew? According to Morozumi's addition to Christmas lore, environmental encroachment drove a community of elves to the North Pole for a serendipitous meeting with Santa and Mrs. Claus. In their new digs, the elves take on their now familiar role as toymakers. Fun details abound ("Santa taught them everything, from building snow-proof windows to fitting steam pipes"). The artwork, especially scenes of the happy elves gamboling in red caps and peasant garb, has an appropriately fairy tale feel. Ages 3–6. (Nov.)
