Set in 2005, Quatrano’s entertaining sequel to 2015’s Murder in Black and White adds more depth to her intrepid lead, FBI agent-turned-PI AJ Buchanan, who has “a love for photography, justice and [her] husband Travis, not necessarily in that order,” and who runs “on an insane sense of responsibility to right social injustice.” AJ and Travis travel to New Orleans to attend the wedding of a cousin, Merline Thoubodore, whom she barely knows. It’s also an opportunity for AJ to learn a family secret involving her late mother’s family. The awkward family reunion turns tragic when one of her other relatives, Clive Thoubodore, falls down a flight of stairs, breaking his neck. Foul play is suspected, and AJ and Travis investigate. The family secret AJ learns of proves to be a possible motive for murder. Quatrano effectively combines characterization, plotting, and suspense. [em](BookLife) [/em]
