Calling the Play

Kane’s second Birmingham Rebels contemporary (after Broken Play) sizzles. Quarterback Tyler Oakes partied his way through life and the NFL before getting a very abrupt wake-up call. Feisty police detective Randi McInish, the queen of casual sex, has spent her life trying to prove to her older brothers that she’s every bit as tough as they are, but on the inside, she craves love and acceptance. The night Randi meets Ty in a dive bar in Birmingham, Ala., she’s trying to make an undercover bust, but it all explodes in gunfire. She’s mad that the deal went bad, but soon everything else gets good, as Randi and Ty develop intense feelings for each other as well as plenty of passion. Their relationship is progressing at breakneck speed until the reappearance of Brian Mason, an important figure from Ty’s past. He refuses to give up Ty, is drawn to Randi, and decides to entice them both into a three-way romance. Scrappy Randi charms with her take-no-prisoners attitude, and Ty and Brian are appealingly imperfect. As readers cheer them on to their happy ending, the author ably sets up the next title in the series. (Dec.)
