Temporary Wife Temptation

Jayci Lee. Harlequin Desire, $5.25 mass market (224p) ISBN 978-1-335-20894-1

Two people, both in need of a spouse, decide to marry for convenience in Lee’s debut, a sweet but predictable whirlwind romance. Garrett Song is eager to take up the reins of CEO at Hansol Incorporated, his family’s successful fashion retail business. Unfortunately, his grandmother has decided he must marry the heiress to a prosperous Korean company in order to earn the promotion. Tired of having his life decided for him, Garrett lies and says he’s already engaged to avoid the arranged marriage. Conveniently, Natalie Sobol, a fellow v-p at Hansol, also happens to need a spouse in order to adopt her recently orphaned niece. Garrett and Natalie mutually agree to enter a fake relationship under a limited-time contract, but are surprised to find that neither wants out of the arrangement after the terms have been fulfilled. This formulaic story is well-executed but contains little surprise. Readers looking for a fluffy take on a favorite trope will be pleased. Agent: Sarah Younger, Nancy Yost Literary. (Feb.)
