I’ll Be There (but I’ll Be Wearing Sweatpants): Finding Unfiltered, Real-Life Friendships in This Crazy, Chaotic World

Amy Weatherly and Jess Johnston. Thomas Nelson, $18.99 trade paper (224p) ISBN 978-1-4002-2675-7

Sister I Am with You bloggers Weatherly and Johnston encourage young women to build “lasting sisterhood” with other women based on trust and Christian faith in their heartfelt debut. The authors met in a blogging group and struck up a friendship that serves as the blueprint for this volume’s advice. “Friendship involves effort on both parts,” the authors contend, especially early on: “You have to show up for a sapling.” To do this, the authors suggest finding common ground with strangers to establish connections, and letting one’s love of God inspire one to love others. The authors also entreat readers to stop comparing themselves to others and believe in their own worth because “anything made by God—is flawless.” The upbeat attitude and bubbly musings (“Should I keep watching Bridgerton until two in the morning while snacking on cheese? My heart says yes”) make for an uplifting and endearing outing, particularly for young women. The sensible advice and shared sunny disposition make these authors a winning combo. (Jan.)
