The New Naked: The Ultimate Sex Education for Grownups

Harry Fisch, M.D., with Karen Moline. Sourcebooks, $14.99 trade paper (304p) ISBN 978-1-4022-9337-5

Esteemed sex expert and urologist Fisch (Size Matters) provides tips and tricks for spicing up couples’ sex lives, placing his focus on effective communication. As Fisch puts it, foreplay is not just what happens right before sex but what happens day and night, from helping out around the house to sending flirtatious texts. The book also outlines his “LSD”—listening, security, and desire—approach to improving sex lives, and while it provides solid basic information, it’s important to note that the title is misleading. Unsurprisingly, considering Fisch’s expertise in male sexuality, the book centers almost entirely on men’s sex and health. Counterintuitively, however, it’s written for married women, though he encourages them to get their husbands to read certain sections. Similarly, the book’s appeal is limited primarily to vanilla and heterosexual couples. On the plus side, there is an element of interactivity, as it includes quizzes and examples of questions he’s received over the years, making it an approachable and easy read. Nevertheless, those offended by gender stereotyping would do better with the guidance of a different expert to help spice up their sex lives. (Apr.)
