Dinner Survival: The Most Uncomplicated, Approachable Way to Get Dinner to Fit Your Life

Sandi Richard. Scribner Book Company, $22.95 (192pp) ISBN 978-1-4165-4364-0

Food Network Canada star Richards, the Rachael Ray of the great white north, delivers a welcome addition to her signature ""cooking for the rushed"" family cookbook series. Persuasively arguing that a plan is the key to a week's worth of healthy eating, Richard shows readers how to prepare by creating a master list of pantry essentials as well as shopping lists for each week's worth of dinners, eliminating the need for additional trips to the store (essential for Richard, who has seven children). Once the larder is stocked, Richard gets to work offering surefire hits like and cheese and spinach-stuffed manicotti, burgers and a classic tuna casserole. Without going overboard, Richard manages to keep meals interesting as well as budget-friendly. Though hampered by an amateurish layout and an over-reliance on broccoli and asparagus for sides (notoriously hit-or-miss among the younger crowd), Richard's meal plans are reliable and should be well-received by fans.
