Something Happened on My Way to Hell

Kimberly Davidson. WestBow, $19.95 paper (240p) ISBN 978-1-4497-7853-8

Bible counselor Davidson considers herself a former sinner. She has recovered from eating disorders, drug addiction, and promiscuity, and has rededicated her life to Jesus. In this self-help volume, she wants to show fellow sinners the myriad temptations of modern life, the different forms addiction can take, and how they turn one%E2%80%99s attention away from God. Davidson offers up a 12-week study guide to recognizing addiction, breaking free of habits, and surrendering to God. She offers checklists, tips, and a plethora of biblical verse to support her course. While Davidson%E2%80%99s guide will appeal to readers who are already devout Christians, others may find her points about the ways people can turn away from God repetitive and cringe at her generalizations, particularly her assertions about behaviors demonstrated by all Christian women. The author%E2%80%99s points about the new forms addiction can take in the modern era (cell phones, etc.) are useful and on point, but for the most part, Davidson is preaching to the choir.
