Sun God Seeks... Surrogate?

Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. Grand Central/Forever, $6 mass market (432p) ISBN 978-1-4555-4697-8

Pamfiloff’s sixth Accidentally Yours humorous paranormal (after Accidentally... Cimil?) pairs up a struggling waitress and a devastatingly sexy god. Penelope Trudeau is minding her own business, trying to support herself and her ill mother in New York City, when flamboyant stranger Cimil offers her a million dollars to bear a child by Cimil’s brother, Kinich. While Penelope declares that her womb is not for sale, she does wonder why Cimil chose her. But the truth is far beyond anything she could have imagined: Cimil and Kinich are gods, in the middle of a fight to eliminate evil forces and prevent the apocalypse, and Cimil thinks Penelope is Kinich’s fated mate. Pamfiloff injects smart-ass humor into every scene, as Penelope’s mother is kidnapped and Penelope and Kinich try to find her while keeping themselves alive. The cutesy dialogue and asides (“Ogling your giant man-sicle...”) are cloying, and the cliffhanger ending frustrates, but the plot and characters are pure fun. (Mar.)
