Younger: The Breakthrough Anti-Aging Method for Radiant Skin

Harold Lancer, M.D. Grand Central Life & Style, $27 (288p) ISBN 978-1-4555-4890-3

Beverly Hills dermatologist-to-the stars Lancer shares his skin-rejuvenating program in this informative book. Lancer begins by recalling a childhood accident in which he was burned—thus inspiring his lifelong fascination with the body’s largest organ. The author believes that restoration rather than alteration is key, and that rehabilitation works better than surgery; though he offers and is knowledgeable about every up-to-date treatment available, he maintains that his at-home “3-step Method” (Polish, Cleanse, and Nourish) is the most effective route to younger-looking skin. Targeting the epidermis rather than the dermis, Lancer claims that his plan takes 10 minutes a day, and keeps skin fresh, protected, and hydrated. Though he lists his own “luxury” skincare products, to his credit he also includes moderately priced and affordable alternatives for readers on a budget. While Lancer points out that biological programming is a factor affecting youthful-looking skin, he also insists that one cannot be “passive” when it comes to skincare. In separate chapters, he covers such lifestyle topics as stress, exercise, sleep, and diet (which affect the health and beauty of skin), as well as “special needs” such as acne and rosacea. With anecdotes from Lancer’s practice, readers will find this guide accessible and absorbing. Agent: David Vigliano, Vigliano Associates. (Feb.)
