Tiny Hats on Cats: Because Every Cat Deserves to Feel Fancy

Adam Ellis. Grand Central, $15 (256p) ISBN 978-1-4555-5813-1

Inspired by a popular picture the author posted on his Instagram account, this whimsical concept book displaying elegant, intricately detailed miniature hats fitted for household cats is both a quirky cat-lover's homage and a viable DIY guide. The book includes instructions for a variety of impressive paper hats, ranging from the standard cowboy hat to the ornate samurai helmet. Photos often show the cats in a state of peaceful contemplation, unsuspecting of their chic headwear. Occasionally the cat perfectly complements the hat, as with the sandwich hat modeled by Maxwell, who is slumped upright on a coach with his belly exposed as though he's just eaten an enormous meal. Though the book's main appeal comes from its models, the craft component ought not to be overlooked. Ellis, an illustrator at Buzzfeed, provides easy-to-follow directions with visual aids for each step. Agent: Monika Verma, Levine Greenberg Literary Agency. (Oct.)
