Three Brides, No Groom

Debbie Macomber, read by Emily Beresford. Brilliance Audio, unabridged, seven CDs, 8 hrs., $14.99 ISBN 978-1-4558-6540-6

Originally published in 1997, Macomber's romance traces the lives of three women who reconnect at their 15-year class reunion. The last they knew, all of them were engaged to be married and ready to live happily ever after. However, things didn't work out for any of them. The three friends share their tales of romantic loss: one groom unfaithful, another off to baseball's big leagues, and the third a professor who enjoyed a dalliance with a co-ed. The three women discuss their heartbreak and the possibility of finding new romance with the right man. Emily Beresford's narration lacks enthusiasm. Although she has a lovely voice and her reading is clear and well paced, her performance is not compelling. Her portrayals of the three friends are uninspired, and she does little to differentiate between the characters or create distinct voices. A Harlequin Mira paperback. (June)
