The Dangers of Dating a Rebound Vampire

Molly Harper. Pocket, $7.99 mass market (368p) ISBN 978-1-4767-0601-6

Choppy storytelling mars the third installment of Harper's (A Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses) paranormal romance series. College student Gigi Scanlon's big sister, Iris, is a vampire, and an overprotective one to boot. Both sisters are thrilled by Gigi's return to Half-Moon Hollow, Ky., for the summer, but Iris isn't so happy about Gigi's summer job working for the infamous vampire Council. Gigi's determined to make her own way, however, and quickly finds herself embroiled in the intrigues of office politics and joys of leadership, while having frequent dreams of a handsome vampire she's never formally met (only kissed). The book is resplendent with humor, but the jokes rely on over-the-top antics and the plot on barely believable connections. The meet-cute is given hardly more than passing mention, while much of the novel relies on past characters as pratfalls and plot crutches. Agent: Stephany Evans, FinePrint Literary Management. (Mar.)
