Osburn (More to Give) can’t decide whether small towns are idyllic or intolerant, leaving her first Ardent Springs contemporary stuck somewhere in the middle. Lorelei Pratchett broke Spencer Boyd’s heart when she refused his marriage proposal and moved to Hollywood to pursue an acting career. Twelve years later, she reluctantly returns to the small-minded small town that always treated her badly. Lorelei plans to stick around just long enough to get back on her feet, but Spencer and her grandmother are in cahoots to convince her to stay for good. Part of his slow seduction involves helping her find work and rehabbing her reputation, which gives her the confidence to begin selling baked goods at a local boutique. Spencer is lovable and their reunion is sweet, but both are overwhelmed by cartoonish pettiness from the townsfolk, which is so pronounced that Lorelei must keep her burgeoning baking business anonymous.
