Art Barn

In one of two titles launching the Noah’s Park series, Williams introduces half a dozen toddleresque animals who explore the activities available at a cheery preschool-like park. Opening a full-page flap reveals their destination: “We’re going to the Art Barn. Hooray!” There, the animals—including a snail, zebra, panda, and bear—create a collaborative portrait of the local train, Chugga Chuff. With their soft, crayon-y outlines, the animals almost resemble plush toys. Friendly characterizations and upbeat rhymes (“First put on your painting smocks./ Let’s not splatter all those drops!”) add up to a light, thoroughly warmhearted adventure.
